Clarion have been working with the local community to ensure the regeneration of Eastfields provides opportunities for local people. In particular, local residents have been instrumental in installing and maintaining a new community garden, with regular gardening sessions.
Summer of Fun – A Summer of Activities in Merton
Clarion residents enjoyed a fantastic programme of free summer activities across the London Borough of Merton, bringing families and people of all ages together throughout the summer holidays.
From archery and sports sessions to arts and crafts workshops and music events, there was something for everyone to enjoy at locations across the borough.
The programme ran from Thursday 30 July to Friday 28 August, offering residents a range of opportunities to get active, get creative and make the most of the summer holidays.
Storytelling Session
To celebrate the National Year of Reading 2026, we are holding a storytelling session for kids during May half term holidays.
The session will be hosted by an entertainer who will read storybooks aimed at kids aged 1-9 years (but older children are very welcome too).
No need to bring anything! It is free to attend.

Eric’s story
When long-time Eastfields resident Eric collected the keys to his new two‑bedroom flat last year, he knew he was stepping into a new chapter - one that arrived at just the right time following his retirement.
After more than 20 years in his three‑bedroom house, the regeneration of Eastfields provided Eric with an opportunity to downsize to a modern, energy‑efficient home that better suited his lifestyle.
“What I wanted was something smaller and easier to maintain which is why I agreed to move to a two-bedroom flat,” he added.

Poppy Heights Mural
The mural was developed through a co-creation process, starting with a workshop in March 2025 where 30 children aged 7–14 explored colours, shapes and themes they wanted to see in their neighbourhood. Their ideas were then brought to life by artist Rose Hill, founder of Co-Creative Connection.
Every part of the mural reflects something shared by the community, from shapes that suggest movement and calm, to themes of nature, joy and imagination.
The mural is now visible on the block Poppy Heights and it’s a celebration of creativity, connection, and the people who live here.

New Community Garden
Due to a keen interest in gardening among residents on the estate, we enlisted the help of Urban Growth to install a new community garden space in summer 2023. With the help of residents, we installed 8 new raised beds. They were planted with herbs and ornamental plants, including lavender, lemon balm, alpine strawberries, thyme, rosemary and tomatoes.
Urban Growth run a monthly gardening club for residents, deciding what will be planted in the beds, maintaining them and sharing gardening skills and knowledge. The garden has been designed to be movable, to allow it to be embedded in the future landscaping of the regeneration.
Get on the bus
The community bus visits Eastfields twice a week. It is a mobile community hub for Merton residents offering a space to meet for a cuppa and a chat or get health advice.
Some residents will be familiar with Crafternoon sessions, craft workshops run by the Salvation Army, who operate the community bus. For a trial period the vehicle will be parked on Clay Avenue, near the portacabin which is opposite 55 Clay Avenue, on Wednesday and Friday between 10am and 2pm.
Join ParkPlay
ParkPlay is coming to Eastfields. The group run free, fun two-hour sessions with games and other. Everyone is welcome and the activities are open to people of all ages. Look out for ParkPlay on the central green every Saturday morning from 10am. They offer an opportunity to improve your health and wellbeing by staying active, meet your neighbours and make new friends.

Employment and training
As part of the ‘social value’ offer for the regeneration, the main contractor is sponsoring a number of jobs and training opportunities. These are available to residents on the estate.
